The Lighter Side of Portland Weather
Audio FAIL! KIG98 NOAA WX on 162.55MHz goes NUTS!
In early 2005 I managed to catch our local NOAA weather broadcasting frequency really screwing up. Here you can enjoy its seven minute rant on 162.55MHz in wonderful monaural sound. While snickering, please enjoy some pictures of the NOAA office in Portland, and scenes of the mountain top transmitter site, including the transmitter/amplifier/bandpass filters and the towers outside. The audio content is created at the Portland Oregon office of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and transmitted up to Goat Mountain on south of Estacada Oregon on 410.1MHz. It is then re-transmitted on 162.55MHz then amplified to 330 Watts. Side note: I did edit together the audio from two different cameras as you may hear that the audio quality switches two times but the content is complete, didn’t want you to miss a second of this FAIL! Disregard the Nextel Direct Connect beeps – I had to call someone to have them listen in to the transmitter as the content was too good to miss.
